For Frodo is our rotating New Zealand Pilsner that focuses on highlighting New Zealand hop varieties. Our newest batch features the newer, super sought-after hop, Riwaka. Riwaka is a quirky hop in that it is low in alpha acids, which is the main hop compound that contributes to bitterness, yet the hop is packed with flavor. Typically hops that are low in alpha acids indeed are flavorful, but don’t have nearly this much flavor potential. The resulting beer drinks crisp like a proper pilsner, but with noticeable, out of this world, (Middle-Earthly?) flavors of guava, passionfruit, and green bell pepper, that fades into burnt bike-tire rubber that is one of the main quirky aspects of Riwaka.
